Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays from MH Weddings and my dog, Pete!
Merry Christmas from Pete
(Click here to see just how handsome he is when viewed large.)

I typically post a testimonial on Mondays, but I have been so busy running around doing last minute shopping and wrapping before I leave for Chicago tomorrow to have Christmas with my family. Christmas really snuck up on me this year, so much that I didn't even get my holiday cards out!

Thank you to everyone who purchased a calendar, I am officially sold out! I am glad they were a big hit this year, for 2010 I will be sure to print a larger run to make sure that everyone gets one.

Featured Testimonial: Vero!

This concert style postcard was designed especially for Vero and Chris, who are tying the knot next June in Barbados. I don't know about you, but Barbados is sounding PRETTY good right about now! Congratulations, Vero and Chris--I look forward to working with you on your invitations.

Thanks again for all your help, you were great keeping up with all our questions. I can't wait until our family and friends start getting them in the mail and hear their reaction! We'll definitively get back in touch with for our wedding invites!"

Featured Testimonial: Mary!

I sell samples of my invitations on Etsy. It's a great way for prospective brides to see, touch and feel the quality of my work. If you see something on my flickr page that you don't see available in my shop, email me. I try to keep my shop updated, but time can get away from me.

I recently sold a sample of my Blooms and Stripes invite and received some very nice feedback that I would like to feature today. Typically, I post feedback of brides I have worked with--but this time, I am sharing a testimonial of a bride that I will be working with.

Featured Testimonial: Grace!

I've done many versions of my concert style save the dates. Most of them use photography, but from time to time I get a bride that does not wish to include a picture. With or without a photo, these save the dates are bold and fun.

Our friends and family are already writing us commenting on how much they like them! Thank you, thank you!"

Featured Testimonial: Anne!

I had the pleasure of working with Anne on her save the dates this summer. She was so much fun to work with, her great sense of humor combined with her sense of style made the whole process that much more enjoyable. I frequently visit her "wedsite" to get a good laugh, and I am really bummed out that I don't live closer. Because THAT is a wedding that I would love to crash! No doubt, Anne and Tom have a blast together and will lead quite the adventurous life. I just hope she keeps up the blogging to keep me entertained.

Here is what Anne has to say:
Thank you so much for putting our vision into action. You took exactly what we had in mind and were able to implement it to a tee. It was so easy to convey that idea an it really took no time at all to get the idea and look we wanted. You were always available to answer questions and help bounce ideas off of.

We thank you so much for all your creative work and time. Especially considering some of the "special" requests we had, it was above and beyond and so very appreciated. The paper, the specific color match, and all the details really make a difference and are so noticeable. So thank you for all your hard work and I can't wait to continue to work with you.

Coming soon!

I spent the weekend working on some new things for my etsy shop. I will be offering some notecard sets as well as christmas cards in addition to my wedding stationary. They will also be for sale in a new store opening in Dublin called "The Market at Serendip."

If you live in the Columbus area, be sure to check it out when the doors open next week. It is located in Dublin in the Village Square Shopping Center (Riverside/161). The Market is a consignment shop, featuring a distinctive collection of upscale merchants, artists, and craftspeople. I am really excited about this opportunity, and I know the other merchants are as well.

Featured Invitation: Calla Lillies!

Every Monday, I have been posting a featured testimonial from past clients. I am waiting for more feedback to come in---and some feedback that I have, I don't have the invitations photographed. So, I am going to start posting "Featured Invitation" on Mondays as well. If I have created wedding stationary for you in the past, and you have not appeared on my site (and would like to!), I'd love to post your kind words here. I have a few testimonials still to post, but I don't have photographs of the work. I will try to get that taken care of so that no one is left out!

In the meantime, here is one of my newer designs created especially for Nancy and Bony-Mike. She is having a calla lily bouquet and requested a simple and elegant design using them--with hints of brown and copper. Here is what I came up with:

2009 Desk Calendar Photos!

My wonderful friend Abi was kind enough to photograph my 2009 calendar. If you were not sure how it looks and functions, hopefully this will help. Also, if you plan to get married in the Keys or are taking a vacation down there and would like some portraits, contact Abi. She'll take good care of you!

Buy one, or two...here. :)

My friend Julie ordered one, and had this to say:
Mine came today! Thanks Marit!

You guys, it's SO AWESOME!!! Every page has different fonts and graphics so you'll never get sick of looking at the same thing month after month. The print, paper, and plastic holder are also extremely high quality. It's so adorable sitting on my desk!

Definitely buy this.

Featured Testimonial: Laura!

Laura is one of my few local brides that I had the opportunity of meeting with over coffee. I shared my invitation samples with her and her fiancé Drew, and I knew instantly they were going to be a ton of fun to work with. They are getting married at the Columbus Museum of Art next year, and wanted something a little "artsy-funky." After seeing their amazing engagement shots from Kitty Mauer, I wanted to add a little bit of a vintage feel to their design. You can see what I came up with, along with a wonderful testimonial from Laura on her blog Bridal Cheek.

Featured Testimonial: Sara!

I have been fortunate enough to design wedding invitations for a number of my friends and family. Sara and Ryan had two ceremonies, so it meant double the wedding stationary. But, that's okay--because they were so great to work with (Sara is an amazing cook and their fridge is always stocked with adult beverages)!

Sara and Ryan were the first ones to send out my boarding pass save the date. I designed it especially for their wedding, and it's become one of my most popular designs. It's such a different and fun way to announce a destination wedding--and the graphic in the corner can easily be switched out to suit the ceremony location.
Tropical Flower Boarding Pass
Their passes had a lot of information, so they did two pages. I flooded the back with a pattern of the tropical flower and designed a custom wrap around label. Standard passes are one page, and printed one side--but if you like it like this, just ask!

Next up, the Mexico wedding invitation. Because there were going to be many pieces and parts, I designed this piece to be held together with a pocketfolder. The inserts included a list of events (snorkeling and a dinner on the beach!) and some important spanish translations (such as "Congratulations Ryan and Sara!") and the RSVP postcard. I named this invite "Ka-Bloom!" because of the punch of color you see when the invite is opened.

Once they returned from exchanging their vows in Mexico, Sara and Ryan had a celebration in their hometown. It was important to them to send out a save the date, so that all guests felt like they were a part of their big day--even if they didn't make the trek to Mexico. Sara decorated the tables in beautiful Mexico decor and arranged Peonies on the tables. The guests received this "teaser" in the mail:
Peonies Save the Date

And finally, the best for last! Their hometown reception invitation, "Blooms and Stripes." This is one of my favorite designs, I love the contrast of the stripes with the bold blooms. The colors can be changed to match any wedding theme--but these look so nice together!

Here's what Sara has to say:
Marit did both save the date's and invitations for our Mexican wedding and our stateside reception this past summer. She was a pleasure to work with and the finished products were absolutely perfect! I didn't really have a vision in my head when we began of what I wanted, so I know that I was a difficult customer. Marit would send me small design elements and colors to help determine what I liked and always came up with the perfect thing. I didn't really want all of the elements to be of the same theme and as a result each piece she did for us was completely unique. Since we were having a destination wedding she had the brilliant idea to make a "boarding pass" style save the date that looked like a plane ticket! We used more traditional styles for the formal invitation as well as our stateside save the date and invitation. Marit had great ideas for keeping costs under control and was able to make suggestions tailored to our budget. Her work (and her personality!) is fun and vibrant, and the pieces she designed for us have become treasured mementos. They were so beautiful that a friend commissioned a custom piece of art for us as a wedding gift that was made from all of the pieces Marit designed!

2009 Desk Calendar Available for pre-order!

I know we have a few months before we ring in the new year, but why not be prepared with a Marit Hanson Weddings desk calendar?

This past year was very busy for me, and I thank each and every one of you who made that possible! I truly enjoyed working with all of my brides. I've been very fortunate to receive an outpour of compliments and some of the nicest emails--I've even blushed a few times. It is so rewarding to be a part of such a big day for so many people.

I decided to take a sampling of my work and design a desktop calendar. The cards measure 4 3/4" x 5 1/2" and are proudly displayed in a jewel case. I am hoping to get a few cranked out and photographed in the next couple weeks, but will post the calendar itself here shortly. Stay tuned!

If you are interested in pre-ordering, please send me an email. Calendars will be $15 + $2 shipping for US orders ($4 international) and will be mailed in heavy-duty corrugated mailers for added protection!

I will post an announcement here when they are available on Etsy!

Here's what Paula has to say:
After looking at far too many pearly white invitations with embossed hearts, we nearly cried tears of joy when we came across Marit's work. Her style is the perfect mix of fun and sophistication. Even better, the postcard style response cards created less waste than traditional response cards. Marit was amazing to work with- she was extremely quick with sending proofs and very understanding when an indecisive bride kept changing her mind about the wording. Featured Testimonial: Jennie!

Jennie is a good friend of mine, and is the reason that my wedding business got started! We were sitting at her kitchen table one evening flipping through wedding magazines when she mentioned that she still needed to do her wedding stationary. I was all, "DO YOU REALIZE WHO IS SITTING ACROSS THE TABLE FROM YOU?" She hit herself on the forehead, and we immediately started concepting.

She and Chad had a black and white wedding--with splashes of chartreuse. Their big day was planned for a Friday, rather than the typical Saturday. For that reason, I suggested their save the date to reflect their big day as an event--like a concert that you might attend on a Friday night. Jennie was sold on the idea, and I got to work. Once the "poster" was designed, I thought we could go the extra mile and make it even more official by creating "tickets" and matching address labels that would pop on the beautiful chartreuse envelopes.

Here are Jennie's save the dates, which have been one of my most popular designs. They are available in just about any format-- flat card, postcard or poster!

"Concert" Poster Save thee Date

The invitations strayed away from the concert poster design, but kept the same color palette. When guests saw that chartreuse envelope, they knew what was inside. This is one of my favorite invitations, and because it was the first one I designed--I promised the bride that it would be named, "The Jennie." This invite is a pocketfold with inserts. We sealed the pocketfolds shut with a sticker containing their monogram, then wrapped them in a bellyband that was a "teaser" to the invitation inside. Rather than tiering the inserts, I flooded the back with a black and white damask style pattern. The bold pattern provided nice contrast against the chartreuse pocket.

Here are her invitations:

Jennie's wedding was beautiful--hands down, one of the prettiest weddings I've been to. I was easy to spot, because I was dressed like the invitation. Nothing like self promotion! The lovely lady on the left is my wonderful friend, Sara, whose invitations will be featured here soon!
Sara and me

Here's what Jennie has to say:
"I was nothing short of thrilled with Marit's design work for my Save the Date cards and wedding invitations. I went in with a foggy idea of what I wanted and she transformed all of my broad ideas and magazine clippings into a totally original work of art! She was incredibly easy to work with and delivered everything in a timely (and affordable!) manner. The process was actually fun! I received so many raves about both the invitations and save the date cards…it really made the day that much more special. I love our STD so much I have it framed in our bedroom. I will continue to recommend Marit to all of my family and friends!"

Powerless!

Ohio was hit with some leftover Hurricane Ike winds--and it knocked my power and internet right out. I am on DAY TWO without it, so I am doing a lot of reading by candlelight and watching the food in my refrigerator go to waste.

The power is still out at my house, and there's no wireless to be found! So, if you send me an email and don't get immediate response--this is why! I've seeked out power and have charged my MacBook up to get some work done tonight, but no internet!

They are telling us it could be next Monday before it comes back on--just in time for me to go on vacation!

Anne found me through her friend, Julie and asked that I do something custom for her Fall wedding. She found some inspiration in this cake on The Knot and told me to run with it. You captured my fall colors and theme perfectly! I am also very pleased that you were able to do matching escort cards and menus for the reception and that everything was very reasonably priced. Thank you for being so easy to work with and for putting up with me when I became a little obsessed! I would recommend you to anyone who is looking for unique wedding invitations on a budget."

Featured Testimonial: Kelly!

My boarding passes have been really popular for destination weddings. The original design, and the most ordered, is adorned with a tropical flower. Over time, I've added other graphics to my library: grapes, palm trees, a modern flower and now starfish. If you have a custom graphic you'd like for me to apply to the passes to coordinate with your big day--let me know! I'd love to work with you.

These boarding passes were created just for Kelly's Cancun wedding. She went the extra step and ordered the matching wrap-around address labels, which really spruce up the envelope.

Featured Testimonial: Danielle!

Danielle and Sam were married on a golf course this Spring. Rather than do anything cheesy with golf balls, tees or clubs, I designed her materials with a polka dot theme. Take a close look at a golf ball, and you'll find "polka dots" covering the ball– that's where this idea came from. The corners of the invitation and information cards were rounded to further hint at a golf ball--and to jazz it up a little bit. The corners of the RSVP postcard remained square due to USPS mailing requirements.

Let's Polka!

Here's what Danielle has to say:
"Marit did a tremedous job on our save-the-date and wedding invitations. I wanted something simple and modern but not boring and that is exactly what she did. Marit was willing to modify and to suggest new ideas when my first concept did not come out quite like I wanted. She has such a tasteful eye.

The location of our wedding was on a golf course and I wanted the invite to hint at that theme but not to scream golf. The design she came up with had small dots in our coordinating colors that were perfect.

In addition to her creative side, Marit also has very strong customer service skills, She was willing to meet during the evenings and weekends. She also managed my project on a great budget. She is dedicated to making her clients happy.

She is a very talented designer and she helped to make this wedding so memorable. I would recommend her to everyone for any special event."

Featured Testimonial: Julie!

Julie is one of my few "local" brides. It was nice to meet with her and talk about her wedding face-to-face. It's a luxury that I don't often have. After a few discussions and a meeting or two, I came up with a design for her wedding at the Franklin Park Conservatory, a beautiful venue here in Columbus. The invite had three parts, which were placed into a pretty coco brown backer card that was held together by gold brads. I also created a custom wrap around label adorning the frond design from the invitation:

Here's what Julie had to say:
The invitations you went into the mail a week ago, and I've been so excited about the e-mails, calls and texts I've been getting from guests about how unique and beautiful they are. So many people are commenting about the wrap-around address/return address label -- and that was my favorite part too.

I really wanted something different than the million-layer, expensive-paper, everyone-has-them invitations, and that's exactly what Marit gave me. The invitation is unique, beautiful and is perfectly suited to our venue (Franklin Park Consevatory Palm House).

It's been great working with Marit, and I especially appreciated the quick reponses. I've already recommended her to friends, and I'll continue to.

Maggie found me through JuneBug Weddings. We teamed up to make a concert style postcard for her upcoming beach wedding. Save the Date Concert Style Postcard

to read what Maggie had to say on her blog! Or, read it below:

Our Save the Dates came in yesterday, and we're thrilled with them. They're created by Marit Hanson, who created fantastic "concert poster" invitations that served as the inspiration for these. As concert postcards, our Save the Dates are relatively inexpensive, but still entirely memorable... and they completely serve the purpose of getting the word out about our wedding early so that folks can put it on their calendars.

We wanted to do something really fun and "us" for our Save the Dates... either a live music theme or a travel theme. When it came down to it, these were the ones we wanted blown up and framed in our home... and so that was that. I love how fun and different they are. And who knows... originally we thought we'd go with fun Save the Dates and more traditional invitations, but maybe we'll do all-around fun. Kinda sounds like us... ;-)

Kudos to the great JunebugWeddings Save the Date Inspiration Gallery on flickr for tipping me off about Marit!

Featured Tesimonial: Anne!

Anne found me through Etsy, as do many brides. She had already purchased her table numbers for her reception, but still needed something to tell her guests to save the date of January 7. I took the look of her table numbers and married it with the save the dates I created from her. These are her beautifully letterpressed table numbers, purchased from this etsy store.

Here's what Anne has to say:
We have gotten such wonderful feedback from all our friends and guests about the save-the-date. Everything from "they are so cute" to "those are the most unique save-the-dates I've seen." We love them and knew they would too. Thank you again for your work. I have referred several of my friends who are also brides to you - since you were beyond easy to work with, very friendly, exceptional as a designer and reasonably priced. I can't wait to get started on the wedding invites!

**I can't wait to work on her invitations either– she and Tom are one of the funniest couples I've worked with. Take a look at their wedding website, and you might just pee your pants in laughter. Don't say I never warned you!

What are the chances?

I was contacted by a bride this week who saw my feature in Junebug, a Seattle based wedding blog that is a wonderful source for wedding ideas. She saw my concert style save the dates and then saw that I was located in Columbus, just a few miles from her! It was meant to be.

I had the pleasure of meeting with her and her fiancé today for coffee. I brought along my portfolio, which is something I rarely have the opportunity to do. While it is possible to design invitations remotely (I'd say about 90% of my clients are out of state), it's refreshing to be able to meet and talk weddings face-to-face. I knew I was going to love working with them, when she said "chartreuse." I'm obsessed with that color and can't wait to work it into her gallery inspired save the dates!

Featured Testimonial: Julie!

I have been fortunate to work with Julie on all her wedding materials. She has been really easy to work with, and I really love how these invitations turned out. Julie wanted a bold and modern look to her invites, and wanted lots of green! We went with accents of chartreuse and moss to match her bridesmaids dresses. I am looking forward to creating her programs and table numbers to see how all of it will come together.

Here's what Julie had to say:
"I loved working with Marit on my wedding pieces. I sent her a couple pics of pieces and colors i liked, and she created exactly what I wanted! Anytime I requested changes, etc. made, she was super quick and really seemed to enjoy creating my perfect invites! I would absolutely recommend Marit to anyone who wants custom invites."

Featured Testimonial: Janet!

My friend Sherri, who happens to be a very talented photographer, referred her best friend Janet to me. Janet was a joy to work with; she came prepared with not only examples of style she likes but also fonts and color palettes! She had a good idea of what she wanted and trusted me to put it on paper. After exchanging a few emails, I got a really good sense for her wedding. Janet had save the date cards made with a vintage style photograph of the Brooklyn Bridge, taken by Sherri. She wanted her invitations to be stepping stone from the save the date cards. Janet expressed that she'd love her invites to contain New York City landmarks for her Brooklyn wedding. This is what I came up with:

I And really, don't be surprised if you start getting some referrals from my wedding planner because she was really impressed. I'll definitely be handing out your business card to folks.

On Vacation!

For those of you who may have missed the little sidebar to the right, I will be on a much needed vacation from July 2 to July 10. It has been a very busy season for me, and while it has been very gratifying--I am definitely looking forward to a week of relaxation on the coast!

I went full speed ahead this week and finished up invitations for Janet S. and Julie D, as well as save the dates for Beth K. and Carla P. They are all boxed up, labeled and ready to go to the post office in the morning ladies--so be on the lookout!

I will have access to my email and will be checking it as often as I can without getting slapped on the wrist by others telling me to "QUIT WORKING!" I will try to respond promptly, but bear with me. I look forward to working with you when I return.

Have a safe holiday weekend!

Featured Testimonial: Tessy!

Tessy loved the concert poster design I did for my friend Jennie, but wanted something a little smaller and more cost effective. We ditched the envelope and decided on a 4x6 postcard version of the design. They came out great, even though they are considerably smaller than the original concept--they still have a lot of impact.

Great work! I was very pleased with the whole creation and editing process... and the resulting save the dates. I hand delivered a few because I wanted to see everyone's reactions! Thank you!

Featured Testimonial: Amanda!

Amanda's maid of honor contacted me about creating invitations for her close friend as a wedding present. Working with the two girls was really easy, and it was awesome to hear the reaction of both of them regarding the invitations.

The girls chose my "Surf's Up" invitation, and switched the colors around to fit the theme of the wedding. I also changed up the typeface to something a little more fun for Amanda.

Here's what Amanda had to say:
I just received my wedding invitations and they are so beautiful! Seeing the date, our names & everything down on paper at last is so exciting & makes everything so tangible and REAL. I dreamed about my invitations as a little girl but as a bride there's so much to do planning-wise ... my Maid of Honor decided to give these to me as gift & I couldn't be happier with the results. You've captured my colors perfectly with the navy & celery, and I love how the invitations are earthy looking & simple while still on-trend & totally unique.
